some updates

Wow it seems I've watched more movies this few months than I have for the past two years. In the cinema at least.

This week promises to be quite busy. I'll be going to KL to renew my passport. I really hope I can do it in one day and come back straight away. Even though it expires in November, my student pass cannot be renewed unless my passport is valid for at least one year.

Got news a few weeks ago that my grandfather on my fathers' side passed away. He will probably be put to rest on the 26 or the 27 of this month so my father has been quite busy with that.

My sister will be going back to Nigeria for a few months as part of her training as a doctor. I'm sure she will be thrilled by that. Dad will also be going to Lagos to pick her up.

This weekend would probably be my last in Kuching. I was thinking of some kind get together, Malaysian style. Malaysian style you ask? Makan la! :P I would really like to spend some time with Marion, Valentine, Anne and the other ICCF people. Some how we just bonded :) And of course bethany people ma.

Just a few updates, nothing much to say.

die hard 4.0

There's a reason why i chose this poster. I'm sure it says die hard 4.0 but i'm not sure what language its in.

Die hard 4.0, wow I must say I was a bit reluctant to watch this one, all the previews I saw was about things blowing up and alot of acshian! I'm not sure I've watched any of the prequels so this might well be my first die hard movie.

Everyone kept saying its nice and all so when Lanre said he was going, I joined in. I've got nothing to lose. My real purpose was to see what the fuss was about. Not really to watch a movie I'm looking forward to and I must say it did not disappoint.

The best part of the movie was not when Bruce Willis was avoiding missiles from F33s or when he took down a helicopter with a car {that was cool :D} but the part where I don't get to pay for the movie hehe. Someone made my day.

Die Hard 4.0 is quite violent so if you're not used to seeing people being rammed by a GMC jeep at high speed through walls with sparks flying everywhere and then a tense moment where both driver and victim hang by elevator cables with bad guys shooting while they hang on to elevator cables, the only thing keeping them from falling to their death plus being crushed by the GMC jeep that got them there in the first place, i suggest you pass on this one.

It does have its humour and there's the classic American style brotherhood/friendship that develops between two people who go through near death experiences together.

Now to the reason I chose the poster, well I just want to recognise the international teams involved in this movie. There were two spidermen from France no doubt. {Remember the opening scene of Casino Royale?} Those guys are back. And there was the Mexican who shot Bruce Willis, sorry Detective McCaine.

One thing I see these days in movies is the choice of Nokia phones as communication device of choice. And there were a few BMWs here and there. What are these companies doing in our movies? Do they think we dont have enough advertising already? For transformers there was the Nokia phone and beautiful apple cinema displays. Nice :D, I want :D

Overall i'll give it a 9/10 just my personal opinion. Could have been a 10 but the violence was uncalled for.

whhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhy?

What happened Justine? I was supporting you all the way. Sorry I couldn't watch the match because I needed to sleep but you can beat her man! ah woman! ah you can beat her la.

I feel so disappointed. Oh well there's always next year. But even though Bartoli won, I don't think she will beat Venus Williams who just took out Ana Ivanvic last night. So I guess the Williams family will have something to celebrate this weekend.

on relationships

It would be a shame if this blog becomes superficial and I'll consider it a failure if it doesn't touch people's lives in one way or the other so for this post and hopefully a few more in the future i'm going to talk about some sensitive issues. There's no need to pretend and its ok to talk.

I've been in a relationship for almost three years now, it started well. The whole idea thrilled me, i couldn't believe it was happening. We went shopping, movies and stuff, thousands of sms, and dozens of calls each week followed and everything was fine and rosy. But then there came as there always will be clashes, conflicts of interest. Simple misunderstandings blown up until it was like a nuclear bomb. The problems affected my studies, my life, it can get quite crazy.

I came to the point where i didnt want to go on anymore. I just wanted to call it quits. I mean this is not what i bargained for. Its not suppose to be this way, i remember thinking but somehow God held us through. I say God because i dont think either of us had the strength.

As time went by, the excitement died down, familiarity sets in, and you start to take things for granted and the relationship grows cold to the point where love has no meaning anymore and you ask yourself what really is love? In proverbs there's a passage that says hope deferred makes the heart sick. And really its easy to take what you have for granted until you come to point of almost losing it and things start to come back to perspective.

In a few words, i know relationships sound dreamy and nice and its like the best thing that every happened, the best idea every but it takes time, effort, prayer and good counsel to keep it going sometimes. The emotional bombs that hit you takes some maturity to weather and it will affect every single thing you do. Do i regret my decision? Absolutely not. There are things i've learnt about myself and about people that i could never know any other way. If i have the chance to do it all over again will i still choose her? Definitely, only a bit later.

There are things in life that should not be rushed into. Not because they are bad or anything but we need to be ready for them. We need to be prepared to handle the hard times and most importantly, we need to develop a strong enough relationship with God so that nothing can dimish us from our final goal. We were made for Him afterall, He is the bride and we are the bridegroom.

So while i'm in a relationship and things go wrong, i make mistakes, i forget birthdays and anniversaries, i become selfish and don't call as often as I should. While i make these mistakes and hurt the one i love, it take courage to admit them, ask for forgiveness, pray that you get forgiven and try again. Give it another try. The worst thing you can do for yourself is give up. I learned that the hard way :P

In many ways relationships reflect the character and nature of Jesus. We love him that's why we want to hear from him, we want to serve and make him proud. We want to honour him and just bless. Not to be selfish and receive all the time but bless others. We mess up, then come to him and pray for forgiveness and he loves so much that he would forgive everytime.

I guess what i'm trying to say with so much words is i'm grateful for the counsel of friends, pastor, leaders and for their concern and as nice as a relationship may sound its not for everyone because its such a serious thing that lives could be torn apart if we're not careful. I pray that this will be helpful to anyone who's seeking ;)

Be anxious for nothing but in everything through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, make your request known to God and the peace of God that transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and mind through Christ Jesus

transformers

Remember Superman, Spiderman, Batman, Catwoman, Hellboy, Xmen? Remember them? Now forget them because I want to introduce you to a new set of Superheroes. Compared the autobots these flesh and blood earthlings dont come close.

Stephen Spielberg is really talented. Michael Bay really knows how to blow stuff up. And they didn't waste time getting us ready for the action. No silly nonsense chit chat except for a bit of Spanish before the action began. I was sitting in the theater thinking wow there are so few girls watching this movie.

Our first contact with the transformers from the evil breed led by megatron who is frozen stiff, temporarily disabled while his privates get all the information they need to find the location of the cube. The life giving, planet creating cube that they need to take control of earth and clinch total control of the universe {that is so cliche i know but it works}. They hack into a US Army database, get through firewalls like nothing and steal top secret information hoping to find the location of the cube but every time they are stop short of downloading the entire internet as well as the US governments top secret servers.

I dont want to go through all the details of the movie since that would spoil it for you if you've not seen the movie yet but I believe this is by far the best movie of the year. The storyline is well constructed, makes some sense. Even though we all know life came to the world when God spoke the word not from a clever cube. The movie has a lot of humour at some points it was almost like a comedy and the action was oh so exhilarating.

Overall i'll give it a 9/10 basically because of the cube thing. Definitely will have a sequel, Hollywood is greedy :P
