don't be a spoilt brat

An interesting thing happens when you don't get what you want. The other day after lifegroup, little Gabriel wanted his mummy to buy milo peng (iced milo) for him because some of the Curtin students bought McD on their way back home. He was whining and making a fuss and his mummy didn't really pay attention to him. She's used to it I guess. It reminded me of the time when I would ask my mummy for things and she would say no and that was it. My mood was sour after that but you had to deal with it. She's like a brick wall when it comes to irrelevant things. When you don't get what you want, you are in an interesting place of helplessness and most times having your request turned down is good for you. Spoilt brat is what we call people who always get what they want and its not a compliment.

In church and lifegroup (lifegroup is what we call cellgroup), we've been going through a lifestyle of worship and one thing that was pointed out, and I'm not alone in this; when we get what we want, and have been asking for we stop praising God/seeking God. Its a bad habit and does not respect the relationship we have. I see this on twitter a lot "Oh I'm sorry. I forgot I only exist to you when you need something". Its true right? The correct attitude is to always have a lifestyle of worship, whether you need something or not or already got what you wanted.

God values your soul more than anything.
I don't know if I've talked about this before but it bear repeating anyway. If being successful will draw you away from God, then God may not give you success. It sounds so unfair right? But what's more valuable? It's not that if you are wealthy or lack few things you get scared that God will take it away. I like to believe that God is good and people like Abraham convince me that it is possible to be wealthy and still have a close relationship with God. Again it does not mean that if you're struggling financially that you attribute your situation to this fact. But its true that God values your soul more than anything and will go to any length to get your heart and your attention. He's passionate like that.

The past few weeks has been great. I really enjoy catching up with my siblings, especially the sisters. Sisters are the best. And I love my brother too. He's special. I feel so blessed.

love your side of the fence

Love your side of the fence. I made this statement to a friend and at the time it just came out without much thought but as I think about it a bit more I'm quite puzzled why I framed it the way I did. It might have something to do with the saying, "the grass is always greener on the other side".

The main premise for the statement is based on wanting more than you have at the moment. If I learned anything from my economics class way back in secondary school is that as humans we are inherently insatiable. Our wants are numerous and its vanity trying to satisfy them all, that is why we have priorities. So we always want more than we have and its not entirely a bad thing. The desire for more, better, has pushed us further ahead technologically and improved our lives immensely. But there's a bad side to always wanting more, and that's in not being content or satisfied. When will enough be enough for you?

My main argument was that life is all about seasons and a key to living happily in whatever season you are in is to find a way, or ways of enjoying it without looking at all the things you cannot have now, all the things that maybe will come in the next season. If you are single, by all means enjoy being single without regretting that you don't have someone. Do all the things that your freedom as a single allows you to do because once you find someone you won't be able to do those things any more. If you are a student, play games, travel, meet people, stay up late, enjoy your student life because you will have to work someday and you won't be able to do those things again. You will miss it. If you are working, enjoy your work, cherish the challenges and opportunities your job brings you. Enjoy waking up and having a place to go, things to do, errands to run because there will come a time when you won't have to do all those things any more and you will miss it.

Love your side of the fence is my way of saying, enjoy the now. Prepare for tomorrow and the changes it brings but live in the present.

while waiting

Here we are again, at the crossroads of decision. Here or there, this one or that one. If I've ever needed Your guidance, it is now, in this season. I don't want you to bless the way I choose, but lead the way I'll follow.

Isn't it strange how its so easy to do the wrong thing, yet not so for the right?

work in progress

Many times it feels like following Jesus means you have to give up a lot of stuff. And many times we feel deprived of some of the good things others enjoy. Then through interaction and conversation, we realise that by following Jesus we have been saved a lot of pain, suffering, grief. Even though we still have pain, suffering and grief, its of a different kind, the kind that does not destroy but builds. It does not leave us hopeless but makes us stronger.

God is moving in your life. You may not see it but He's working. Be of good courage.

Steady my heart

In this chaotic life, its comforting to have a place to run to. I love this song. Steady my heart by Kari Jobe

Wish it could be easy
Why is life so messy
Why is pain a part of us
There are days I feel like
Nothing ever goes right
Sometimes it just hurts so much

But You're here
You're real
I know I can trust You

Even when it hurts
Even when it's hard
Even when it all just falls apart
I will run to You
Cause I know that You are
Lover of my soul
Healer of my scars
You steady my heart (x2)

I'm not gonna worry
I know that You got me
Right inside the palm of your hand
Each and every moment
What's good and what gets broken
Happens just the way that You plan

And I will run to You
And find refuge in Your arms
And I will sing to You
Cause of everything You are

You steady my heart (x2)

...
Beautiful isn't it?
