Where have all the white mice gone? A few years ago white mice where everywhere. White was officially the color of mice and even keyboards but these days its very difficult to see them.

Since i'm getting a white dell, i though why not get a white mouse to complement it since my black logitech mouse is now...well, rosak. I've been keeping my eyes peeled for any shop that sells good quality white mouse but haven't found the one i like.

Logitech has these mini mice that are white and other colors but its not the kind of white i'm talking about. I'm yet to go mouse hunting in miri but i feel that if i can't find it in kuching then i won't have much luck in miri.

But then apple has a white mouse, the mighty mouse but i'm not sure if it is supported on windows systems. It would be kind of cool if it works though :P

After giving it some thought, and quite simply tired of looking i've decided that the color of my mouse does not matter. I was thinking of the mighty mouse from apple but it looked so fragile and nice, i don't think it can take my daily abuse. So its probably going to be a logitech. I'm not sure which logitech yet but it definitely won't be white :)

I need to be careful with my words. Guess what, today i went to town, determined that i didn't want to spend the day at home, all bored and wondering why in the world i came back early without a computer. And went to boulevard and there it was. A white mouse from logitech. Some more its a wireless mouse and instead of the normal optical mouse i used to have its a laser mouse. They say its suppose to work well on any surface. So i.....got it. Couldn't resist :P

I read my gmail thanks to Joshua borrowing me his wife for a while while he attends a pre-marital seminar. And Dell is estimating my Delia will be here on the 28th. Thats the first day of school. I just hope i get it earlier. I don't think i want to keep borrowing people's PERSONAL computer.

red pink or yellow

I've not made my mind yet what color Delia will be. I wanted to get a pink on initially just for the fun of it but decided not to. Someone promised to steal it if it was pink. So i thought red is not a bad color, but jacqueline already has a red laptop. So what else is there? I don't want a blue one, white is not me, black is too generic so that leaves imho yellow. Yellow?

On the exams front, i have one more paper to go. Considered ok but i still need to study for it, especially mathematical induction and recursive relations, still don't get it. For the others i just need to do more practice and refresh my memory.

I don't know what happened this sem, there was no will, no direction, i felt really out of sync and it makes me sad that i could do as well as i hoped. But there is still hope, because i put my trust on the rock that never fails, because my steps are ordered by him, because he can turn disaster to blessings and i wonder what i did to deserve it all. Yet i feel he's teaching me to learn to work harder than i have been.

These few weeks without my computer have been quite good in a way, i've been deprived of the things i do on a regular basis; go online, read tech news, check facebook, see what's on flickr and stuff and i miss all that, and they're not in theirself bad things but now that routine has been broken i tend to think more about whats really important. Instead of staying up late watching anime on veoh, i could sleep early so that i can wake up early and prepare for the day. See sometimes deprivation is not such a bad thing. It gives you something to aim for to look forward to like now i'm deprived of getting a mac, so it gives me something to look forward to. I told myself one day for sure but for now Delia will do.

only in july

No computerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr :sob: :sob: I want to cry already. I thought it would make me more focused but the truth is, i cannot concentrate. I feel very restless, sometimes just pacing around the house. Good thing gawai is over and i can come to school and use the ME lab computers. I feel very paiseh asking people, can online for a while? And its never enough :( I need my daily internet fix.

Its weird, i feel trapped thats why sometimes i'll open the gate or just look outside. I didnt realise it but going online is my way of getting out. I'm not sure if that makes sense. Let me try again, going online is my way of getting to see the outside world and keeping in touch with whats happening.

Unfortunately i cannot get a new lappie until the end of next month. But since i'm getting a dell i think i'll call it Delia, I thought about Delwin for a name but delia sounds better. Any other suggestions? Since Ben is dead now all i can do is recover the hard disk along with all my songs and pictures and transfer them to Delia when she arrives sometime in July. Man thats long.

Somebody help meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

lappie update

Just got a call from ben's nurse that there is no hope for Ben. It appears that they cannot find a replacement motherboard for Ben because Ben is an old timer. So no choice la, absolutely must buy a new computer.

Now i'm thinking again, is it really worth all the effort getting a new Dell with windows vista, or windows xp? Especially as windows 7, vista's replacement will (hopefully) be released in 2010. Windows 7 promises to be the next windows xp in terms of reliability and security but we'll have to wait and see. Is it really worth the effort getting a PC that will become absolutely useless in another 4years? If it breaks down, or breaks apart which ever comes first then i cannot find any parts for it to prolong its life. Is it really worth it?

I prepared to send an email to the big guy and tell him i need a new lappie but decided against it. Money is such an issue with him and i don't want any more trouble with him. So i guess i'll have to tahan until next sem lo. Boo hoo hoo.

Its going to be a dell

The nurse taking care of my lappie, {i decided to call him Ben, you know for benq?} called me yesterday and said the problem could be in the motherboard. And that it could take a long time to fix. So i have to live with the possibility that ben might never be back. So i have to make a decision on what new lappie to get. And its going to be a dell. Yeah dell.

What? No macbook?
Unfortunately no, i have my reasons. But why a dell? Well their customer service is among the best and their hardware is not too bad also.

Why not a macbook?
Macs are great, its a superb combination of sweet hardware and the best operating system in the world but at the moment, as a student i cannot justify the cost of owning one. I just configured a 14" dell for less than 3k. I know it runs on the dreaded windows vista but thats a sacrifice i can make, and if i want linux i have so many options to run it.

I guess another reason why i opted out of the mac is my unhelpable obsession for the darn things. Like i said they're nice but i feel there's more than just getting it. I feel somehow owning a mac gives you something of a cool status of sorts, like there's this kind of maybe possibly, i don't know pride in it. I feel like i need to curb in me the desire to always get what i want, and be content with what I have. So it more of a personal deprivation more than anything else. I love macs, i used robert's macbook for one night and thats all it took me to get used to it and it was lovely. But i think i will only get it when i start working or if i win a lottery or something.

Evil Lappie Finally Gave Up

Like i knew something would happen, my almost four year old lappie decided to stop working for good. I was using it yesterday and it just shut down by itself. It not the first time it has happened, usually computers shut down like that when they are overheating or when the the power supply is faulty, so i left it for a while hoping it would come back on but nah.

And you know the timing couldn't have been more perfect as i have an assignment due this monday, the one i got special extension for. I mean, why now of all times to break down why when i need to do my work?

Yeah yeah i know, time to change but no money now wo. And i can't tell my dad i want a mac, he'll just send me a missile from Nigeria. Hehe. But then when you think of it, if i'm going to use a computer for another ahem 4 yrs then isn't it worth investing on something that will still be functional and useful for all those 4 years? And besides that, if i want to get those Dell XPS machines, they're about the same price give or take a few hundred. And besides, i don't like windows anymore :(

Pray for me la, i need to use something before exams are over, and i need to complete this assignment and start preparing for exams, my gosh its almost here. Two more weeks man.

lappie going bye bye

I know i rant a lot about wanting a new laptop and how i want a mac but now i really need a new lappie. My computer is giving me some less than subtle signs that its going 6feet soon.

The latest is my screen going blank so that you cannot see anything. Actually its not totally blank just super dim yet still you cannot use it for anything. The only resolution is a restart. So if you're my angel and you have a lot of money to spend, please, i want a mac :'(

After Exam plans
Yay booked my ticket to KL today, leaving on a jet plane on the 20th. Haven't booked my ticket to Kuching yet, hope i can spend more time there. I really miss everyone. But first must face exams and tests and the remaining assignments still pending.

Oh yeah, happy gawai to all who are celebrating. Try not to get drunk hehe.

i want a mac

I mean don't we all want a mac? I know i do. I've been seriously considering the possibility of owning a mac, maybe replace my barely existing computer with a macbook. Why? Well a couple of reasons.

Macs are based on Unix. Unix is a very old operating system written in c. I'm doing a lot of c programming now so it would be easier for me to open a terminal and work straight with the vi editor or the upgraded vim editor.

But there are not many programs that run on a mac. True but there is the possibility of running windows on a mac on a separate partition so all the programs you want to run on windows can just run. There is also a VmWare solution where the windows installation can work on a virtual machine. Besides these there is a number of softwares being written for the mac.

Another thing i'm considering is the problem with viruses and spyware and all that rubbish. You simply don't get that on a mac its clean.

You've got to love macs for the visual effects and the customisable desktop.

However there are a few concerns. I watched steve jobs recent keynote on the new mac OS - leopard and it was really, really good. I'm thinking, why get a mac now and upgrade later when you can wait for leopard to come out and get it then. So this is another setback.

Macs are expensive. True, the macbook i have my eyes on costs about RM4199 but you can get a mac mini for less than 2k granted you need to buy your own keyboard, mouse and display. The new imac are a lot cheaper too except for the really big screen display models.

Hey linux is based on unix and its free why not get that instead. Ah linux, i installed ubuntu feisty fawn on my laptop and it was all good until i started to get problems with connection to the internet. I like linux, the fact that is freeware is enticing but its still not as user friendly. Of course linux would be the obvious solution since thats all we use in the labs maybe i'll give it another try.

The main problem still remains, i need new hardware, something with a dvd writer and better screens and graphics. Something that is stable and free from BSOD's something i would love to use for a long time coming. Do i really need a mac?

Oh btw heroes season 2 is out, not sure if people follow heroes anymore but thought you should know.
