It was just a dream. He opens his eyes to the familiar scene of his room. There's a stench, a familiar stench. There's light filtering through the only window, illuminating the obstacle course of things not in their place. At least the sheets are clean. It was just a dream but the pain is back. The doctors did a good job so it's hard to tell, but every now and then like an echo the pain comes back and then it's gone, like a dream. Only, it was not a dream, he was there. Ruby still checks in on him, to make sure he's OK. It's not enough for her to save a life. She's one of the rare ones, the last of her kind. "She's a gem" he'd say, but only to himself.
